ASCS News
We are the ONLY private school to partner with ASCS is pleased to announce a partnership with Regent University to offer two college credit courses for the school year 2010-11: Math for the Liberal Arts, and English Composition 101. The course will be taught at Atlantic Shores by our teachers, who will be adjunct Regent faculty members. Students will enroll in Regent University and receive college credit upon successful completion of the course. The advantage that a student enjoys by taking a dual enrollment class is the fact that college and high school credits are earned upon the successful completion of the course (passing for colleges is a grade of “C” or higher). Regent's Early College Program is specifically designed to allow qualified juniors and seniors at Atlantic Shores Christian School to take accredited college courses while still in high school. We are excited about this new multi-tiered partnership with Atlantic Shores, providing junior and senior students a cutting-edge, pre-college experience through a contract-delivered course option. Seniors also have another new opportunity. We have partnered with both Regent University and Tidewater Community College for our seniors to take dual enrollment electives.

Is it a Simile or a Cliche' — You be the JUDGE! When a simile has been used a lot it becomes a cliche'. Recently our 4th graders studied the differences between a simile and a cliche' for a creative writing contest. These students were challenged to think of a creative way to say the same thing! Here are a few examples that we thought were fun. Cliche' Cliche' Cliche' Cliche' Cliche' Cliche'

Congratulations AP Scholars! 2009 graduate Gloria McMillen, senior Anna McMillen and senior Alicia Ahlgrim have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2009 college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.4 million high school students in more than 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar. Alicia Ahlgrim qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three AP Exams with a grade of 3 or higher. Anna and Gloria McMillen qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams. Gloria earned a score of “passing” (three or above) on seven AP exams, and Anna has earned a passing score on eleven exams. PLEASE let us know what’s on your mind.
